Halo: Campaign Evolved Assault on the Control Room — Mission 5 Walkthrough & Tips
Halo: Campaign Evolved Mission 5 walkthrough: cross the snowfields, keep the Scorpion alive, reach the control room, and find all 3 Skulls and 1 Terminal.
CLASSIC MISSION 05 / 13
This long snowbound mission moves between Forerunner interiors, bridges, vehicle fights and open valleys. Weapons and vehicles carried out of one section can shape the next.
Assault on the Control Room mission walkthrough
- 01
Climb through the first interiors
This level is long, so do not burn every good weapon in the first few identical rooms. Follow the floor arrows, wake sleeping Grunts with melee when it is safe and pull Elites back through the doors instead of fighting the whole room at once. The early lifts and bridges eventually lead outside to the first snowfield.
- 02
Take the Scorpion through the snow
The Scorpion turns the middle of the mission into a much easier push if you keep it healthy. Stop before each green door, use the cannon to clear whatever is visible and only roll forward when the Wraiths and Hunters are down. Marines can ride on the sides, but wait for them to climb back aboard after you use a control panel.
- 03
Cross the bridges and reach the control room
After the tank section, the route alternates between more interiors and exposed bridges. Keep a long-range weapon for Banshees and turret gunners, and steal a Banshee near the final bridge if the opportunity is clean. Otherwise work down the structure on foot, enter the pyramid and follow the last lifts to the control room.
Completion tips
Vehicle preservation and knowing when a corridor returns outdoors prevent the mission from becoming an ammunition drain.
- A Rocket Launcher lies beside the overturned Warthog in the first snowfield. Save its rockets for Ghosts, turrets and Wraiths; a charged Plasma Pistol shot can also EMP a vehicle before you remove or hijack the driver.
- Keep the Scorpion alive and remove Hunters before they close the distance; they are one of the fastest ways to lose the tank.
- The bright snow bridge contains several invisible Elites. Pull them back through the interior doorway and break shields with plasma weapons.
Resource plan for the long snow route
Treat the mission as three connected loadout checks: the opening interiors, the Scorpion push and the final bridges. Plasma weapons are most useful in the rooms where Elites can be pulled through a doorway one at a time. A precision weapon finishes them after the shield breaks and also lets you remove turret operators without crossing an exposed floor. Save grenades and rockets for positions that block the route rather than spending them on sleeping Grunts.
The first snowfield has a Rocket Launcher beside an overturned Warthog. Those rockets are more valuable against a Wraith, a packed turret position or a vehicle that cannot be safely boarded than against infantry. If a Ghost is isolated, a charged Plasma Pistol shot creates a safer chance to remove the driver and take the vehicle without using a rocket.
Keep the Scorpion behind the front line instead of driving through each green door as soon as it opens. Stop where the cannon can see into the next area, destroy Wraiths and Hunters, and move only after return fire has dropped. This also gives Marines time to catch up and climb back onto the tank after a control panel or indoor transition.
Legendary and co-op approach
On Legendary, open space favors the Covenant. Use the interior doors as choke points: damage an Elite, step back out of its firing lane and make it cross the doorway before committing to the kill. The bright snow bridge is especially dangerous because several invisible Elites can reach melee range while other enemies fire from farther away. Retreat into the previous doorway, break shields with plasma and finish one target before re-entering the snow.
In co-op, keep the Fireteam close enough to cross navigation markers together. Let one player handle the Scorpion while the others clear side angles, mark Hunters and stop infantry from reaching the tank. A second player should not race through an interior lift while the vehicle team is still outside; regrouping at the door or control panel makes the next checkpoint more reliable. The co-op and crossplay guide explains Fireteam progression and resume rules.
Collectibles without abandoning the mission route
The four collectibles appear along the normal path, but two require action before a useful vehicle or bridge is left behind:
- Keep the Scorpion for the IWHBYD Skull. After crossing the narrow canyon bridge, turn left, park against the snowbank and use the tank to reach the notch in the ice wall.
- Collect the Tangent I Terminal while the tank is still available. At the split around the large central structure, take the left side, enter the building and climb to the balcony.
- When the route becomes too narrow for the Scorpion, continue on foot and look left in the next valley. Climb the farthest of the three metal arches for the Angry Skull.
- At Rally Point Echo, stop before taking a Banshee. Drop from the right side of the bridge onto the support below and follow the dark underside passage to the Cowbell Skull.
Opening each linked location page before the relevant transition is safer than trying to backtrack after a door, lift or vehicle sequence has moved the mission forward.
Mistakes that make the mission longer
- Driving the Scorpion into Hunter range can end the tank section immediately; use the cannon before closing the distance.
- Spending every rocket on infantry leaves no quick answer for the Wraiths and exposed vehicle fights.
- Leaving the Scorpion before collecting IWHBYD removes the intended platform for reaching the ice alcove.
- Taking the Banshee before checking below the Rally Point Echo bridge can carry you past Cowbell.
- Fighting invisible Elites in open snow gives them several approach angles; pull them back to the doorway.
