Halo: Campaign Evolved Mods — Platforms & Recommended Mods
Find Halo: Campaign Evolved mods on Nexus Mods and MJOLNIR Core, with a current shortlist for smoother performance, faster startup, free camera and PC split-screen.
Halo: Campaign Evolved already has a small but active PC mod scene. If you just want somewhere reliable to start, use Nexus Mods for individual downloads and MJOLNIR Core for its launcher, free camera and developer tools. There is no official Steam Workshop integration.
Where to find Halo: Campaign Evolved mods
| Platform | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Nexus Mods | Performance tweaks, UI changes, model swaps and standalone gameplay tools | The largest current catalog. Read each file page because installation methods and game-version support differ. |
| MJOLNIR Core | FlyCam, developer console, mod management and technical tools | Open-source and built specifically for Campaign Evolved, but still in alpha. Expect updates to change setup details. |
Current tools are mainly aimed at the Windows PC release. A download labeled for Steam should not be assumed to work with the Xbox app build, and none of these pages provides a supported console installation route.
Recommended mods and tools to try first
These are useful starting points rather than a permanent ranking. Campaign Evolved was patched shortly after launch, and anything that hooks into the executable may need another update when the game changes.
Lossless Engine Tweaks
Lossless Engine Tweaks is the least disruptive place to begin if frame-time spikes are the problem. It edits Engine.ini to target streaming and hitching without intentionally lowering image quality. An optional variant also removes motion blur, chromatic aberration and film grain.
Use only one broad Engine.ini tweak package at a time. Combining two collections of console variables makes it difficult to tell which setting helped and which one introduced a visual or stability problem. Compare the result in the same encounter, then use the PC settings guide for changes the game exposes normally.
No-Intro-Splash
No-Intro-Splash skips the startup videos and splash image. It does not change combat or mission balance, so it is an easy quality-of-life choice for players who restart the game often while adjusting settings or other mods.
MJOLNIR Core FlyCam and developer console
MJOLNIR Core bundles a free-flying camera, automatic HUD hiding, console access and a launcher for managing its supported mods. FlyCam is the standout tool for screenshots, examining arenas and checking collectible landmarks from another angle.
This is an alpha framework, not an official Halo Studios utility. Install it only if you are comfortable updating or removing a loader after a game patch.
Halo Campaign Evolved Split-screen Co-op
Halo Campaign Evolved Split-screen Co-op exposes two-player local split-screen on the Steam PC build. The current release requires the experimental UE4SS build, a second controller and a keyboard binding to add player two before the mission loads.
This one needs more care than a config tweak. Version 1.0.2 was updated for the 2607-CU3 game patch, the Xbox app build remains untested by its author, and three- or four-player local split-screen does not work. Read the current requirements and changelog before installing. For the game's supported online and console options, use the co-op guide.
Install mods without turning troubleshooting into guesswork
- Check the supported store and game build. A Steam-only loader may not match the Xbox app executable.
- Back up the file you are replacing. Keep a clean copy of
Engine.ini, save data and any edited configuration. - Install one change at a time. Launch the game and test a known mission before adding the next file.
- Keep the original archive and version number. When a patch breaks a loader, you will know exactly what needs updating.
- Remove the mod before reporting a game bug. Reproduce the problem on clean files first; the PC troubleshooting guide covers login, crash and visual checks.
Achievement behavior can vary with tools that alter difficulty, game state or unlock data. Use a separate save when experimenting, and do not treat a mod author's “works for me” note as a guarantee that achievements will continue tracking after a patch.
What Halo Studios officially allows
Halo Studios says it deliberately avoided blocking community modding, but it does not provide official modding tools, support or Steam Workshop integration. Mods must be non-commercial and cannot redistribute a substantial part of the game's code or content.
Mods also cannot bypass ownership checks, Microsoft account authentication, or access restrictions for official locked, unreleased or premium content. That means an account-bypass tool or paid-content unlocker is outside the published rules even if it appears on a download site.
Campaign Remix and collectible Skulls are built-in game systems, not mods. Use the Campaign Remix guide when you want randomized encounters or weapons without changing game files, and the Skull guide for the official modifiers.
